Living and working in Feldkirch
In Feldkirch Altenstadt, the former Hilti & Jehle site is being developed into a liveable and future-oriented living space - the "Viertel vor Feldkirch" neighbourhood. Covering an area of almost 30,000 m², the neighbourhood combines different living environments such as housing, living and working and thus conveys a dynamic, urban lifestyle. The diverse mix of uses and high-quality architecture make the neighbourhood a living space with a high quality of stay and a meeting point character for generations. The flexible utilisation programme can be adapted to future requirements and developments at any time, thus ensuring a long life cycle.
We have set up a BIG ROOM for the integral planning process. The special thing about the BIG ROOM is that not only the architects, but also the clients, specialist planners and contractors sit together in a physical space on site. This means that all steps can be coordinated quickly and easily. With our integrated way of working, we achieve better quality, fewer change loops and more efficient processing. This way of working is also the subject of our dossier "Working like yesterday, planning for tomorrow?"
Experience urban diversity
The "Viertel vor Feldkirch" neighbourhood is designed as a living space with short distances - people who live and work there benefit from the wide range of amenities in the immediate vicinity. The neighbourhood offers a versatile and well-coordinated mix of residential, office, retail and commercial, childcare and catering uses. Around 180 flats are planned for different needs: Shared flats for senior citizens, flats for families, smaller residential units for students or singles as well as subsidised housing. The company headquarters of Hilti & Jehle will also be part of the new neighbourhood.
When building the neighbourhood, we are focusing on a compact construction method and thus on economical use of land. The neighbourhood will be car-free, leaving enough space for generous, varied open and green spaces. Renewable energy sources such as photovoltaic systems and a groundwater heat pump ensure a sustainable energy and heat supply in the long term.
Planning dialogue with the city of Feldkirch and BIG ROOM
The planning dialogue with the city of Feldkirch and the advisory board began in 2019. In the following year, we drew up the first development and utilisation drafts. At the end of 2020, the development plan was unanimously approved by the planning committee, Feldkirch building authority and advisory board. This was followed by workshops with various user groups on the topics of childcare, housing for the elderly, social urban planning and social housing.
We set up a BIG ROOM for the integral planning process: Architects, clients, specialist planners and contractors sit together in a physical space on site.
