Working below, living above
The Belval site, which covers around 120 hectares on the territory of the city of Esch-sur-Alzette and the municipality of Sanem, is regarded as a pilot project for the conversion of former steel sites in Luxembourg. On Lot 40, we are building a striking mixed-use complex with attractive space for offices, shops and services at the base.
Above this, the residential storeys are positioned in such a way that in the centre the park-like roof of the base forms a quiet, green inner courtyard for the residents. The interplay of different heights and window openings creates an exciting, rhythmic structure and at the same time ensures a strong urban character.
Belval is the first urban district in Luxembourg with a consistent mix of functions ranging from living, working, studying, research, leisure and recreation to a strong focus on sustainable development. The Luxembourg government is investing around one billion euros in this project which, among others, houses the central headquarters of the University of Luxembourg as well as numerous public institutions and administrations.
