In the heart of Göttingen's popular eastern neighbourhood, on Nonnenstieg, we built a three-part atrium house with condominiums and a compact block with rental flats. The villas are embedded in the landscape in an urban and environmentally conscious way. The KfW 40 Efficiency House standard enables resource-conserving living with minimal energy consumption.
In the three villas of the Atriumhaus, 12 exclusive flats have been created, mostly orientated on three sides or two storeys high. The detached house within the house. They offer unobstructed views of the surrounding area and direct access to greenery in the form of gardens, loggias, roof terraces and roof gardens. The building beside it provides 14 rental flats with 1 to 4 rooms.
We have carefully positioned the two residential buildings on the sloping plot in order to preserve the old trees as far as possible. With their earthy natural colours, they blend seamlessly into the surrounding greenery and leave room for individual and communal use of the outdoor space. The muted earthy colour of the façades interacts with loggias and large windows with fine-grained render to create a striking appearance. The well-chosen fittings with sustainable materials offer a harmonious interplay of modern design, durability and functionality.
The special feature of the atrium house is the shared access to the three buildings through a spacious, light-flooded atrium. It serves as a central communal area, meeting point and identity-forming entrance. Large openings in the walls offer varied views of the green surroundings. The atrium not only provides efficient access to the flats, but also allows residents to use the areas in front of their entrance doors individually.
The clear floor plans define private areas in the flats as places of security, separated from open-plan living, cooking and dining areas, which offer flexible use thanks to their flowing transition into one another. The floor-to-ceiling windows and panoramic openings frame the view outside, into the greenery and the urban space. Large windows and inviting outdoor areas blur the boundary between inside and outside; living in communion with nature defines the character of the buildings.
