Sustainable mobility on rail

The City of Luxembourg is planning to restructure Hollerich. The neighbourhood is to offer a mix of living and working, community and leisure facilities, public, private and cultural facilities. The new railway station in Luxembourg-Hollerich is a milestone in the development of this area.

As a central transfer hub, it is connected to the public transport network and links the new "Nei Hollerich" and "Porte de Hollerich" districts with the city centre. Weather-protected platforms, barrier-free access and efficient lighting will in future enable comfortable and safe transfers between the railway lines.

Translucent canopies

All three platforms are roofed over their entire length. The canopies made of wooden slats and glass panels with integrated photovoltaic cells rest on metal supports. This translucent structure filters daylight and at the same time provides energy for sustainable operation of the station.

Protective wooden slats

Vertical cladding made of wooden slats on the outer sides provides protection and brings the facility together into a visual unit. The stringent linear structure of the canopies and platform edges as well as their slightly elevated position characterise the surroundings.

Connection to the public transport network

The new station is connected to the future tram line and the Route d'Esch buses as well as the new neighbourhoods in Hollerich. For commuters to or from Belgium, this interchange will save a considerable amount of time, as they will no longer have to travel via Luxembourg Central Station to reach the city centre.

A large flow of travellers has to be guided smoothly and quickly to the vertical access points between the road and the station. We have therefore organised the stairs with as few changes of direction as possible and planned safe pedestrian crossings. On the opposite side, towards the old station, a new subway connects Hollerich Boulevard with the neighbouring district.
