The DC Residential residential complex in Vienna's Donau City is located on an unusual site: the New Danube in front, residential and office towers behind and the Danube embankment motorway below. The A22 motorway overpass serves as the foundation and also houses cellars and technical rooms in its cavities, as well as the building access from the underground car park.
The slender structure is orientated with its narrow side facing the Danube so as not to seal off the bank from the surrounding area. By limiting the height to four storeys, the view of the Danube from the significantly higher buildings behind is preserved.
The elongated block rests on a straight base clad in deep black aluminium with garden flats. Three residential storeys rise above this with sawtooth-like open bay windows and balconies that allow all flats to enjoy views of the Danube. Wave-shaped, white parapet bands emphasise the façade and create an elegant contrast to the dark window bands. External curtains provide optimum privacy and sun protection and lend the building an airy, summery flair, in keeping with its waterside location.
The typology consists mainly of 2-room flats measuring approx. 40 m². Recesses in the partition walls allow the units to be combined at a later date. The flat roof was designed as a roof terrace.
