"Healing Architecture"

What influence do rooms have on health and recovery? Healing takes place not only through medical and therapeutic measures, but also through the environment. Important factors include orientation, privacy, light and colour, as well as views of greenery. "Healing architecture" describes this new approach in the planning of healthcare buildings, which emphasises the positive influence of architecture on physical and mental well-being, thereby promoting the healing process.

In our design, an elegantly folded canopy forms the prelude to the spacious, idyllically situated grounds of the castle clinic. The glass pavilion behind it houses the reception and offers newly arriving guests their first views of the lake. From here, all existing and new areas can be accessed via the shortest possible routes.

Reception, lake wing and bed wing

The two bed wings are accessed via a cascading staircase with a lift and bright corridors facing the park and the lake. This generously dimensioned main path connects the reception, the lake wing and the new, triangular bed wing. The lowered "souk" with staff rooms, doctors' areas and therapy rooms is docked onto this. Cut-in, planted courtyards allow generous daylight and at the same time maintain the necessary intimacy.

Rooms with lake view

All suites and rooms in the new bed wing offer a view of the lake; the café, lounge and dining room on the ground floor also face the lake. A further bed wing with 40 units acts as a noise barrier to the road and railway. A six-storey point-shaped building complements the ensemble of the primary forms of circle and triangle as a "cube".

The Schloss Mammern Clinic is one of the leading private clinics for rehabilitation and is known not only for its high-quality medical care, but also for its upscale five-star hotels. As the first stage in the long-term development of the site, a new wing is to be added to the range of beds.
