Careful redensification
In the spirit of careful redensification, we built the Qulumbus residential and commercial building in the centre of the Vorarlberg municipality of Klaus. The project consists of two different structures made of solid wood, connected by an underground car park.
The three-storey, crystalline cube on the street side houses commercial space on the ground floor and eight rental flats above. The smaller rear building houses a further four flats. The buildings are built as a solid timber construction. Only the plinth and ceilings are made of reinforced concrete, the outer walls and pitched roof are made of wood.
Dark wood with light-coloured accents
The façade is clad with dark-coloured wooden slats. The light-coloured wood of the window reveals as well as the walls and ceilings of the deeply recessed loggias form an attractive contrast. The permeable arrangement of the two buildings creates an optimal distribution of space, light and sun, of privacy and community.
Die Fassade wird mit dunkel lasierten Holzlatten verkleidet. Einen attraktiven Kontrast dazu bildet das helle Holz der Fensterlaibungen sowie der Wände und Decken der tief eingeschnittenen Loggien. Die durchlässige Anordnung der beiden Baukörper schafft eine optimale Verteilung von Raum, Licht und Sonne, von Privatheit und Gemeinschaft.
