A green place as unifying element
What makes a campus? How can we create a sense of togetherness? These questions guided us throughout the entire design process. The existing headquarters – two spacious, interconnected building blocks – contains a variety of qualities, such as the shared green inner courtyard as a pleasant place to socialise. The new building and the exterior space pick up on this mood and knit it further.
The design forms the right counterpart to unite the buildings into a campus despite the separating street. A bridge on the first floor connects the existing building with our office building on the other side of the street. The new building closes off the existing headquarters, creating an inviting, green square that marks the new entrance to the campus
Green façades
The timber façade picks up on the lines of the existing building, continuing the colour scheme of the dark clinker bricks. This gives the new building an independent character but still forms a harmonious unit with the existing building. Photovoltaic elements are integrated into the façade, which not only produce green electricity but also prevent overheating in summer.
Grid-like, green structures at the height of the upper storeys ensure natural cooling of the façades. Apart from the components in contact with the ground and the access cores made of reinforced concrete, the new building is a timber construction.
Inspiring spaces
We want to create inspiring spaces and a pleasant working environment with maximum flexibility and functional perfection. The technology is robust but kept to a minimum in order to enable a sustainable and efficient building with low operating costs and a long service life.
The high flexibility inside forms an important part of sustainability: the building can adapt to different scenarios, from high third-party letting to exclusive use by the company, and thus respond to changing requirements and needs.
The upper floors are orientated towards the campus through the green inner courtyard. Offices and light labs are arranged around a central meeting zone with direct access to the loggia and views of the greenery.
The new building closes off the existing headquarters, creating an inviting, green square that marks the new entrance to the campus.
